L200 won't rev and smokes badly

Hi guys, new to the forum and have a persistent problem with my 56' L200 4Life 2.5did
Starts up fine, but when accellerator is depressed really struggles to rev up to and beyond 2000rpm and chucks LOADS of smoke out the back. Have taken it to a local diesel 'specialist' and was told I needed an new full set of injectors as the rods were 'all scored' - which I duly agreed to and paid for (£850) 🤦🏻‍♂️ drove fine when I picked it up, but the following day the same problem had returned. Took it back and left it for 2 days only to be told 'there's nothing wrong with it, runs fine mate'. So, I duly picked it up (again) only for the problem to return again the following day. This is starting to cost me a small fortune (in lost earnings) and I can't seem to get a straight answer or solution from anybody. I'm not mechanically minded and have to rely solely on the advice of 'specialists', so any advice on here would be greatly appreciated. Somebody PLEASE HELP.......

Is it a series 3 , or a series 4 , as both were around on a 56 plate ( series 3 is the squareish one with a bonnet scoop , series 4 a bit curvier ) ?

It's a series 4 (the curvy one)

I had a similar issue, mine was the EGR valve, it is an electric EGR valve on the B40 L200s.
The valve on mine had come off the electric motor, so was stuck half open.
when revving it up it was like it was missing. There was also grey / black smoke out of the exhaust and a rancid smell.

Also check the rubber boost pipe for cracks splits, it can also block up inside the alloy tube on the engine.
You will need a small drill bit or thin screwdriver to poke inside
This is the pipe
