New apple car play stereo to replace MMMSC

#1 by markjabber , Fri May 15, 2020 3:22 pm

I have bought the Apple car play unit from a 2108 L200 (Kenwood MXLT16ELG4) to replace the MMMSC unit in my 2016, I have some plugs missing and wwas wondering if anyone can shed some light on whats missing or whats supposed to be in them

I have installed new unit in vehicle AND GET THE MESSAGES "no MICROPHONE" AND "no gps"

IN car usb dont see phone and dont get any DAB

Old unit is DAB abd get all the channels so there is an antenna in vehicle
Old unit GPS worked fine so there is an antenna ( may be plub "A" that I can plug into new unit)

This is the unit that came out

these are the plugs on the vehicle

"B" wasnt connected in old unit

Here is the new unit

If anyone know what the extra ports are for would really help and the names of the connectors

BLUE I think are USB
RED may be HDMI
Green could be GPS ( I can find a plug that matches)
Orange could be DAB antenna

If anyone has any info or the where abouts of an instalation manula ( I have tried Kenwood no go as its a dealer unit)

thanks in advance

@markjabber

Did you ever get this working? I’m thinking of upgrading my Titan’s stereo to the latest version.

Thanks
Andy

Thanks. I see, so did you get to the breaker's yard to extract the extra bits you needed?

I was looking at one of these stereos online, which seems to come with the wiring loom, etc. Although the cheeky feckers have up-ed the price from £360 when I was looking at it earlier.

Ah, can't post the link as I'm a new member. Ebay item293735805578 if you have time to have a quick look.

Thanks again

Hey @markjabber,

I wonder if you could provide a bit more help/detail please as to how you got your mic working.

Was this the bit or the loom you replaced for the mic? This extra cable, which attaches from the aerial wire, seems to be the only difference I can spot from the original connections.

Did you just replace the pin end into the quick connector on the original loom or am I going down the wrong route?

Also did you replace the aerial or did you reuse the original?

Thanks in advance for any help...I’m a bit stuck!
Cheers
Andy

Thanks Mark. Looking through that thread now but Google translate isn’t making it too clear to me. So I need to re-pin the existing mic to another part of the connector?

You need the dark grey plug (D-241) the mic connects to that

Can you elaborate more please? The connector blocks are all the same, but the mic doesn't work.

There are 2 white connectors one 20 pin and one 16 pin but you also need the dark grey connector which isnt on the 2016, 2017's may have it tucked away behind the dash.

Connect the 3 mic wics to the relevant pins the 4th wire can just be earthed i believe. Outbof interest does the stock dab aerial reach the head unit when unplugged from the dab tuner that is beliw steering wheel next to the airbag?

I think I need a pin out diagram to be honest... to know where those wires should go in the connect to the radio, as everything looked the same to me.

I've not tried the aerial to be honest. Need to do some more investigating as at the minute I've only got the radio and surrounding panel out.

I do have the wiring loom and the aerial from the radio donor car so perhaps I can use those if I need to extend either...

When looking at connector plug (D-241) from the rear the pins are labled 51-58 on the top row and 59-66 on the bottom row.

pin 56-Sheild Earth
pin 57- Earth
Pin 63- Mic -
pin 64- Mic +

Plug D-241 is shown in Marks post above this plugs in to the socket on the head unit (D-262)

As stated earlier some 2017 models already have the missing plug tucked away behind the dash other wise you need to find one or just get some correct terminals to push onto the correct pins in the head unit.
