Hole on CAT l200 55plate

#1 by markus19 , Sat Nov 07, 2020 5:05 pm

Hi guys on my l200 4 work 55 plate
that ive been working on ive just seen that that there is corrosion on the cat converter at first i though it had rusted right through however after cleaning it back its only the thin steel case that has a corroded hole exposing some yellow fluff that looks like insulation the cat its self in a sense is solid.

my question is can i get away with putting some high temp filler in the hole and sanding off and then painting with high temp paint ?

or is this not a good idea

cheers

dont quote me but I'm sure if you turn it back to front and upside down then it'll still fit
and you wont be able to see the rusty hole any more

Yeah the flange pipe and bolts on each end are pritty rusted up and i havant got a ramp so its not a nice job to work on with seized bolts...

i have actually bought a new aftermarket cat and fitting kit but once i seen that it only seems to be the heat case that has rusted through not the actual cat i though i could go down the line of a repair.

i have seen people on youtube fit a delete pipe but would this not effect the emissions for mot and also cause other issues

It won't because your emissions aren't tested. Being diesel it will be particulates that are tested for, thats why so manybho through without a CAT

Yeah i would rather just keep the cat on if it was totally rotted through then i maybe think about
Takeing it off but im sure i can just patch it up with high temp filler and spray it :-D
