Tailgate swap/retro fit options

#1 by jnr89 , Tue Jul 20, 2021 6:09 pm

Hey guys, I have been thinking about a nice reverse camera setup for the k74 chassis, I have seen the new trucks are coming with the reverse camera on the tailgate handle, but I havent seen a handle like that for the k74 (aftermarket of course) so, I am not sjre if swapping the tailgate for a newer one with the reverse camera will do the trick?

Seems like a lot of work for a reverse camera. I fitted one of the wireless number plate surround ones, works really well and comes with a mirror that clips over the original. Great picture quality after i fitted a ferrite core onto the power feed wires

My thoughts exactly. Probably going to fit one myself, when I finally get round to replacing the tub.
Then again the dents do add a bit of character, lol.

If it's not broken yet, you're not trying hard enough.

I'd get one myself, but I'd just break it reversing into something.

The camera position concerns me, are those water proof? You know having the camera in the lower area of the plate can get water easier than being on the tailgate handle (I really like the tailgate handle with the reverse camera addition) but not sure, I had no idea swapping a tailgate would be so difficult? Sizes are so different or what?

There's a panel on the inside of the tailgate to access the brake light/ handle mechanism, you could remove this and drill a wee hole in the tailgate under the handle and fit one from the inside of it.
