Go Pro cameras ?

#1 by krutly , Wed May 29, 2013 6:36 pm

Just wanted to know what you guys think. Having looked at some of the footage taken from the latest Drumclog I thought I'd have a look at some gopro cameras on the bay of E. Why are they so expensive ? what do they have that your normal camera doesn't ? is it just that they are rugged ggggrrrrrr ? Just wanted some opinions really .......

number three son got one from us for his 21st - he uses it to cut and produce films for his sound tech degree - excellent bits of kit - simple to operate, fab quality film, robust and easy to interface.

GoPro went public for a few billion $$$ so there must be something in it!

The one on the windscreen on my truck in the clog film got taken out by a branch and went in the river. All still working and no damage. They come with a nice waterproof case that means you can take em surfing/kayaking etc. Contour cameras are also nice

Professionals use them which says something about the quality.

I want one for my snowboarding, but i'm struggling to justify the cost.

Looked a good wee camera, can't say I'd ever seen one before the weekend, I nearly shat myself when I found out the price but the quality looks pretty good

I watched one bounce 20m down a cliff after it fell off a climber's helmet. Picked it up and it was still filming... those things are nuke-proof.
The great thing about them is they are ridiculously tough, small and shoot high def relatively wide angle video. If you check out Redbull's youtube channel, most of the on-board shots from their kayakers, bikers, drift cars, surfers and skiers are all shot with go-pros. I like them, would love a handful of them but can't afford 1

They're pitched for extreme sports so these guys are used to spending hundreds or even thousands on kit.

Wenn Sie hier auf Links zu eBay klicken und einen Kauf tätigen, kann dies dazu führen, dass diese Website eine Provision erhält.

i think they're fantastic bits of kit! have dicked about with the cheaper ones and they're a waste of time. picture is crap, sounds is bad, corrupt files, etc...

my mate has a gopro HD 1 and its ok, user interface is a bit trick to get around and he's a uber geek! he now has a gopro 3 black edition with built in wifi, stupid high frames per second in full hd mode but it cost him about £350!! :O

i got a gopro HD2 motorsport edition off a outdoors website for £220 (thanks mr credit card ) and i use it on my push bike, motorbike and truck and it's brilliant! very easy to use. still need to get to grips with editing though lol.

if you;re after one for dicking about Kurt, try find a HD2 on ebay. you can get them brand new for around 200 notes if you look in the right place so you get the full kit along with its warranty.

And I think the new ones have wifi, so you can see what you're recording on your phone.

Got my new one a few months back from Gumtree, it was a brand new gopro hero 3 sliver edition with the suction mount etc..All i had to buy was a memory card for it, iv used it for offroading and also for my last holiday.

The new gopro hero 3's do have wifi so you can control them using your smartphone/tablet, deffo a great piece of kit and extremely tiny when taken out from the housing

Great bit of kit ,I've got the black 3 go pro camera and I use it for all my sports, sailing, fishing, motorbike and game shooting and it does it all without any problems at all.
What I would say is forget the Wi-Fi controller as when used it drains the battery at a rapid rate of knots. The go pro 3 comes
with std mounts but you can buy extra mounts for head cam use,I would also say the only weakness in the go pro is the length of time you can record with its rechargeable battery its a must to have a replacement spare ready at hand.

I've got a Drift 170 and use it to record tree work and rec climbing. 150 quid and picture quality is just as good as the GoPro. It also has a little screen that means that you can view it straight away. Only splash proof, not completely water proof
