Weeping diesel

#1 by Littlered-foosty , Fri Apr 15, 2022 9:39 am

So. This weeks entry into the diary of "what's not quite right, but might be alright for ages , with the truck now"
Diesel is puddling in the recesses in the where the injectors sit. Its directly under the spill rail, which is also covered in diesel. Its making a bonny mess down the block like.
Hoping it's only the spill rail to change.
Anything in particular to look out for when changing them . Other than the specific torque plus 30 degrees.
Still getting 26mpg out the 2004 k74 though so reckon the fuel must be leaking from the low pressure side somewhere 🤔

You don't need to remove the injectors to change the rail. Could be failed crush washer, cracked/mis-threaded injector, or just a loose nut somewhere. You could try doing a leak off test to isolate it if the changing the rail doesn't work.

Having had a second look yesterday and giving that area a really good clean . Took her for a wee run this morning and......
Eureka / doh moment.
Its now easier to see where it might be coming from .
After the spill rail there is a short length of fuel line.
Its attached with ....
Jubilee clips.
Perhaps I'll change them 😔.
What size would I be best with and which type.
There's loads and although handy with a spanner I'm confused by the different types

Also, after cleaning it up ran it stationary and all was well. When under load is when the leak , well it seems more like it perspires, is when it is noticeable

I put on some of the ear type clips.
Where do you get your spring clips from and presumably the Amazon one are gash then. ?
I do have some decent fuel line in the post too.
Fingers crossed but I reckon I'm needing to do the spill rail also, maybe just the washers but we will see.
Its probably just a wee niggle but I'd much prefer to sort them.out as I come across them

I don't know the quality of the Amazon ones - I bought a load of Mikalor ones years ago, but just couldn't remember where I got them tbh
