FLASHING 4X4 LIGHT

#1 by dazmanf , Sat Aug 31, 2013 5:12 pm

I know this has been discussed before but I cant locate it, does anyone or is there pictures of problem sources and how to test to fix them, I remember talk of two vacuum pipes etc and a switch but don't know where they are or how to go about fixing them

Actuator is on the front axle, has a rubber boot covering the end.

Gently peel the rubber back, spray the little T bar with WD40. When the truck goes into 4x4 it should move. (normally sticks)
If you go offroading / wading you can coat it in grease I think.
Check the vacuum pipes for splits too.

Daz, down inside the drivers arch are the solenoids for the front wheel actuator, just behind them is the accumulator (coke can sized), there is a white one way valve between the accumulator and the 'tee' piece which splits the vac pipe that comes down the bulkhead, off to the solenoids and the accumulator.
The pipes either side of the one way valve often split.

Daz, start her up and let the light go out, how long does it take ?......then pump the brakes a few times ( without driving it) and see if it comes back on, that'll prove a vacuum fault.

Daz, do the same with the brake and this time with ign on and engine off, could be slow vac build up, ( due to a faulty accumulator ).

Nooooooooooooo.. start engine let light go out, switch off then ignition on and (hopefully light still off) then pump brake..
If the light is on immediatly after Ign off then on, you have a vacuum leak Mr Daz mate and losing all vac once the pump stops.

Vac leak... vac leak.... alert Daz Haz a vac leak..
Darran, disconnect the accumulator from the system and block the pipe ( get rid of the 'T' piece if you can and pipe direct to the acuator), see if that improves how quickly it goes out.
