Transfer box problems

#1 by Reid , Thu Oct 24, 2013 8:55 pm

Hi bought an l200 4 life 06 plate the other day. I bought it knowing there were transfer box problems. The first time I used the 4 wheel drive the other day, I knew it was sticking and not flowing through the box like it should. I pushed through 4 high then followed with 4 low and the vehicle came to a stop. Changed to 4 high had the same problem. Only working in two wheel. Unable to move the transfer leaver now? HELP
Thanks

Paul

Did you do this on a dry road surface ?
If so roll the vehicle backwards ( presuming you drove it forwards in 4WD) you will have wound up the drive shafts..
Or just jack up one side at teh front and then do the same at teh rear, when lifted release the handbrake and reapply before setting the truck back down off the jack..
Hopefully you have not done any major damage..

Dip the clutch should allow the release of the 4wd shift, when you say 06 plate is the old or new shape as that was the changeover year, if this is a classic there is no Mass Air Flow sensor.

New shape, I've dipped the clutch still no luck. Just put a diagnostic machine on defiantly map sensor. Unsure where to find or how to fix?
Thanks for this!
Also I have it booked in next week to take case of the transfer box is this the best approach?

Have you gone thru the workshop manuals to try and see if there is a diagram for the transfer box

Just a thought when I bought it I was told the previous chap was travelling on the motorway at 70mph and slammed it in low. Idiot! That's all I can say!
Thanks for all your help! Will have a read!

I'm sure I've read that there is a plastic collar somewhere on the transfer box lever that can break and cause the lever to jam. May be worth popping the trim off to see if there is any damage.

Drop the front propsaft ( oil will come out) , and try again, the truck will only have drive to the rear axle then. Also try lifting one whole side of the truck off the floor....
Also, Stormforce is just breaking his truck, get your name own on the gearbox.. There's a thread recently started about it,

Hi sorry been unable to reply Internet went down. It is the new shape and it's also 4life. I dipped the clutch still no luck to be honest. Just to confirm it is an easy select. Sorry about the delay.
