15" or 16" aftermarket rims?

#1 by Antonio , Fri May 23, 2014 8:52 pm

Hi All,
At the moment my truck has stock 15" alloys, but i am looking to upgrade to 15" x 10.5 rims with 35" x 12.5" tyres (this after a 4" bodylift).
I know that later models have 16" alloys, is this due to the front brake system being upgraded in size?
So if i want to use the wheels in future on a later truck is it wise to upgrade to 16" x 12.5" now?

Thanks
T.

Later models have larger discs and 2 piston callipers. The exact change over date is shakey as I've seen pre facelift ones with the bigger brakes while mine has the older system. Old size discs were 274mm but can't remember on the new ones. Some 15 inch steel mods may fit with the bigger brakes but I know @krutly had catching with his and the guy that sold me mine said the same so I got 16s.

Thanks for the replies, i will be starting major work on my truck next month (replace axle with diff lock one/bodylift/ new polly bushes)and refurbish all chassis and below, so when i get to the front depending how bad i may replace a few parts. so i will keep in mind that the replacment discs/callipers could be used.
When i start this i will start my own blog with step by step photos, any advice/tips or ideas from anyone would be great.

Thanks again

Yeah I know, I had problems with it all the time on my disco. As long as you don't get mud in there it's not too bad. Erm, kirton. Oh well, just have to go round on the roof lol

Yea woody will be basic to start off with, as you will see from pics when i start my blog. Im changing axle due to the original diff being shot, new shocks/polly bushes on leaf springs etc. took down and refurbished prop shaft U joints and centre bearing already. May have to take back tub off....lots of rust so il put lift kit on as i rebuild it.
And as expected....sump leaks!!!
got a week off next month and this is what i will be doin.....apart from workin round Mrs to keep her at bay cos yard is gonna look like scrapers for a while lol.
