Plumbing question

#1 by dazmanf , Thu Jun 12, 2014 4:48 pm

Not truck related but looking to take off a house radiator to fix the hanging bracket. Watched a few clips on fat tube and I've turned both ends clockwise, undone one nut to drain bit water seems to be forcing its way out, have I missed something or is this just the inside pressure?

Undo the air bleed screw it will equalise the pressure down to a steady flow

Shut off both valves, left and right of the rad..ideally each rad will have a drain off fitted opposite side to stat valve,if so drain rad and remove..simple.if not then you shut both valves undo both valves from rad have an assistant help lift it off and turn it upside Down quickly.

Refit when done, open both valves and bleed out the air when full

Water sprays when pipe is released, brother in law figures the shut off is faulty, said just to loosen both and drop radiator on its side and refit ten till I fix the bracket

You can do that ..if you have a combi boiler its simple to drain the lot and refil..the risk with swinging the rad down is putting strain on the pipes.

Just as an add on, moved into a bungalow with a combi boiler. Never worked on one so bit out of comfort zone. How easy is it to top up via loop, and what about moving a rad OOOOR just changing taps on a sink etc? Want to fit a wet room so will need all new pipework!

Open one tap on filling loop then the other.you will hear the water rush in..charge to 1 bar and close off both taps.moving rad,you will have to drain the system..atatch hose to lowest drain off ,open drain off,let it run a few mins, open bleed valves on rads till empty.filling is as mentioned.
Changing taps is a case of closing off water supply at mains.run taps till empty..do the work..if isolation valves are fitted you simply close them off run taps till water stops, change taps..
