Replacing Dampers - What else should I change?

#1 by ralphywiggum , Wed May 13, 2015 8:46 pm

I'm going to be fitting new Koni's all round soon.

Any suggestions what else I should replace while it's all apart?

Nuts, bolts, bushes, balljoints, ARB links? Or just re-use what's there?

It's a new shape with 70k miles, handling is not as sharp as it used to be but then the dampers are pretty baggy...

Just bought new shocks for mine. Couldn't get a set of Adventures anywhere so spunked out on some sexy Boge jobs. Bolting them on Saturday.

New dampers should have bushes in them already. I knew all the nuts on mine would be rusted solid so used a nut splitter to remove them all and replaced with new. Your truck is a lot newer and less crusty than mine so you may not need to!

If you're not bothered about spends then I'd do the 4 ball joints and the arb bushes. Might as well whilst you're in there.

Cheers guys, rears came with bushes, fronts being struts don't have them? Or is there something in the assembly?

Seems sensible to do the ARB links and bushes and the ball joints too.

Should I go KSI/Milners or genuine Mitsi for ball joints etc?

What about nuts and bolts? Best to go to Mitsi for them?

I should be able to do them independently of the dampers without rework shouldn't I?

I'd rather break one thing at a time so it's easier to work out where it went wrong
