Heater smells..........

#1 by ronniecabers , Sun Dec 07, 2014 7:34 pm

Right noticed today that when my heater is blowing hot air, it smells musty and damp. I have checked all my carpets etc and no dampness in the truck at all ( except the windows seem to steam up a lot....... )..Any ( sensible ) ideas

Also noticed that I appear to have no Blower speed 1 and 2...have 3 and full...Take it these have resistors for blower speeds , but normally you either have all or none and no inbetween, where as I have postion 3..............

Yes there is a res for the motor, musky steamy smell normally means dampness ( you'll have likely forgotten mate), do you have the heater set to 'recirculate' or 'in in from the outside'

so would the resistor explain why I've lost Speeds 1 and 2 , but not 3 and full ?

And are you implying I 've forgotten what dampness is? LOL! , as for the recirculate or outside ( which is what I think you meant ! ) , the As you suggest , I haven't a clue!

Res would mate, as it has different 'taps' or 'outlets' for each speed... and

Would I..??????

I had the same problem with mine only having the third speed on the fan and yes it is the resistor its easy to renew take the glove box out then you see the heater unit in the middle at the bottom near the bulk head if i remember right its only one screw undo pull it out mine had melted new one in worked great as for window misting up i had the same but if i keep it on recirculate it was ok push the lever to use fresh air from outside it would mist up if it was raining i hope that makes sence

Were you wet at the time? Did you have a damp dog with you?
