Low fuel light indicator On and Off randomly

#1 by Mobys , Fri Feb 20, 2015 9:48 am

Hello to all!

My '98 L200 has this problem. Even with full tank, sometimes the light is on... Sometimes don' t!

Maybe some eletrical problem..

Is this a sensor?

Any help would be appreciated!

Thank you!

mine first comes on when the tank is low and going down hill
once on the flat it goes out again
then on braking it comes on , then goes out as I accelerate
then as I get really low it stays on all the time

yours coming on even when full does sound like something is amiss
my guess would be the float thingy sticking inside the tank perhaps ?
@Mallinman @robl200 @Rob1307 @Alan G @123hotchef may be able to give more info on the tank sensor/sender

My fuel light has never worked as the terminals are corroded on the tank , the wire may have come off yours and could be going to ground on top of the tank causing the light to flash on and off . If you can get under the truck with a torch you may be able to see the wires going to the sender and if any have come off mine are very corroded so be careful as yours may be the same and could break

Thank you for your answers!

The fuel indicator seems to work correctly. Only the light is not working as it should. Are they 2 different parts for measuring?

The fuel unit sender goes straight to the light. So as rob said it is prob a dodgy wire or sender unit.
