Metal block fell off

#1 by Jon Grimsby , Mon Jun 01, 2015 8:15 pm

Been away with the caravan and was sat sipping a drink admiring my Animal when I saw a block of something under it on the grass, turns out its a big ( 2"x3"x4" approx) block of steel, looks like it should be stuck to a rubber mounting under the back of the gearbox.
Am pleased it fell off when the truck was stood still, could of caused a lot of damage to someone/something if it had fell off on whilst travelling.

So, what the hell is it for? I'm thinking some sort of anti vibe device?

Sod that, I'm not risking it falling off again and killing someone. Dosnt seem to make a difference without it on

So, Mitzi build and engine that needs a balance shaft to cure vibration problems and also need a lump of steel to balance the prop shaft? Bloody hell I think I will sell it and buy another old series 2 land rover.

It's also a handy low jacking point if you are installing a gearbox!

Does make you wonder if you kept revs below 3000...like you would if you removed the balance belt , whether you'd even notice it missing....

I've always wondered what the block was for. Don't see the point of it. Seems like unnecessary weight to me. Keep it in the cab as an angry brick!!
