Egr blanking

#1 by JhonboyHG , Wed Aug 05, 2015 8:29 am

Looking to gettin my egr blanked, and remove the cooler. Has anybody made there own egr plates or do they buy them. And what do you with the electrics when it's removed. I've been told to get a copper pipe to go from one side to the other after I blanked the plates for the cooler.

u can make your own no problem mate
I made some for my VW easy to do but for £10 I brought the truck ones

u can use 15mm copper to join the hose together after u remove the cooler or u can get some heater hose and replace it with 1 longer length I have done it both ways

just cable tie or let the muli plug hand out the way no problem with EML cming on

Cheers lads. Heard it's the first thing you should do. As its prevents HGF and adds a little more bhp to what is slow anyways ha

As everyone else has said, I wouldn't use the copper pipe method myself (done two and used one length of hose ) your doubling the leak risk if you do. Just be careful putting the hose on the rear steel pipe, it bends easily and could be damaged.

I've used air hose for spray painting, as it's a pressured hose. It's a bit smaller but fits snug. Just out of question after removing the cooler I assume the system will just self bleed and for me to keep and eye on the coolent level. Is this correct?

you would not have lost that much coolant mate only what the cooler holds you should not even have to top it up no need to bleed either as you wont have that much air in it will just come out via expansion bottle

John having looked at your plates they are way too thin, especially the exhaust manifold one which will get up to several hundred degrees, former member Manraj made thin home made ones and they burned through, the proper plates are about 4mm thick for a reason and obviously true flat and less likely to leak, they are only about a tenner so it's really not worth the effort, the kit also comes with a vacuum blank, standard airline has only about 10mm inside diameter as opposed to 15.8 inside diameter heater hose, Again it's not an expensive job, but I'd rather do it once and do it right.

When I done mine I threw away the gaskets and used exhaust paste on the exhaust manifold plate and RTV silicone on the inlet and that was that

Well at he mo there on the truck 😳 il just keep an eye on the for the time being. I've got some thicker metal at work I was going to make them out of aswell. And that is about 5-6 mil thick. So after reading your reply il use that instead. It's all sealed on using high temp gasket sealer. There does not seem to be any leaks but il certainly keep an eye out over the weekend at it. And make sure there not going to burn out. Cheers @greigboy

No worries chief, just to keep in mind that the walls of the exhaust port on the head will be at least 3mm thick so a 1.5 mm plate will defo be a weak spot, you'll probably get away with it on the inlet side though. I have plenty of metal at home but without a plasma cutter icoupldnt be arsed drilling and grinding the plates out for the sake of a tenner.

I'd defo change that hose as wel for larger diameter heater hose.
