Replacing fuel lines

#1 by dazmanf , Sat Aug 08, 2015 9:25 am

Putting newer tank and new filter in and wanna replace metal fuel lines with clear lines.
Local motor supplier only has clear pvc fuel line, which he's saying will do the job. Thing is, will it? And can I run the lines into the engine bay and not have to worry about heat etc.

I ran rubber fuel lines from the tank to the engine bay , if you want clear lines to look for air leaks I would use it in the engine bay as that's the high point and air will head in that direction

it would be ok personally i would want something of better quality as I off road but if you secure it to the top of the chassis rail I cant see it being a problem to use

Personally I wouldn't use the clear pvc stuff it can go hard and crack ect. Over time the fuel makes it go brittle and it also tends to discolour and yellow.
If I was doing it I'd buy proper oil/ fuel rated hose it's pretty cheap per meter and it will last and there pressure rated. Can be had off eBay ect.
And you could all ways pipe in a clear section to the pump in the engine bay. If you want a clear bit to see for air ect.
If you wanna go nuts you can get goodridge style over braid hose used to run it inside on the race cars and it looks the shit . Lol

Personally I'm not a fan of the clear stuff , as previously mentioned it goes hard ,is a pain to cut off fittings and once hard is a bugger to re-seal if you have take it off and put it back on a fitting

I used reinforced rubber line with a braided coating on it. Replaced stack pipes and all hose clamps at the same time.

I used a dremel to cut the old ones off. Worked a treat and meant the captive bolts were good to use with new nuts
