Not as bad as it sounds, but she failed on the O/S leaf spring.

Pian in the A+@E as I'm pretty brassic this month... I found these on the bay-

There's no mention if they are general work or light work ones. Has anyone fitted them? I'm curious if they are any good?

They are quite a bit cheaper than Milners though.

Fitting is easy enough once you have got the front pin off, some batter the pin till it knocks out I got a grinder with a cutting disc and cut it out, they tend to seize up pretty good , soak the nuts and bolts in wd40 or similar for a couple of days prior to doing the job.

Half way through now, all appears to be good.

I have just tapped and threaded the hanger plate... I did try the top nut on the shock, but couldn't budge it.

Right, back to it.

Cheers

All done!

Apart from the hanger bolt shearing off, the only problem I had was the hole in the middle of the hanger needed to be drilled. So the larger than standard nut, which goes on the bolt that goes through the middle of the leafs could go through and let the hanger plate sit flush.

Glad I did t go for extended shackles, the truck sits a lot higher now.

Cheers for everyone's help.

The offending leaf spring.

All shiny and new with loads of grease. The ride feels sooo much better now, it's surprising what you get used to with gradual wear...

Can I ask, do you oil or grease the springs, or leave them dry? I've never owned a cart spring before, but I know back in the 1950's my father used to oil the springs on his car, but people with older cart sprung Landrovers say leave them dry.

I think it's one of those some do some don't debates about wether to oil the leafs or not. I think it's just down to preference.

I don't oil them cos I'm too bloody lazy. But every time I go to my grandad he tells me off for not oiling them.

Hi John, i didn't grease or oil the springs. It will attract all the crud in the world and soon knacker them. I greased all the bushes.
