Should I check my valve clearance?

#1 by Yoda , Wed Apr 25, 2012 4:36 pm

Just a thought, since I'm putting in a new fully built up head, should I be checking my valve clearance before I install it? I'm thinking that makes a lot of sense to do now and not risk needing the rocker cover off again. Assuming my thinking is correct, could someone point me in the direction of a guage?

Just looked at the specs for this on here......So are we agreed that it's 0.15mm on a cold engine??

That's what I was told. If you read the specs. it gives clearance for warm but as was said by the lads on here, by the time you strip everything off to get to the rockers, it's gone cold, so there is a cold clearance.

Yeah it's just not entirely definitive. Especially with the unanswered suggestion that it's 0.25. But if you did yours at 0.15 cold, then that's what I'll do mine to.

There is never going to be a definitive answer to this due to the variables, Ambient Temperature, impurities in the metal causing different levels of expansion, production variance of the feeler gauge, etc. etc. etc. You just look for the best compromise.
