Was thinking along similar lines just don't want any crap in the tank also how can I check sender unit to see if the low level lamp illuminates?

use some grease on ur drill bit the swarf will stick to it, look in the manual there is the resistances for the sender

I'd like to confess that my stack pipes are only held in with 3 bolts , I used the same sealant that I used on the sump to make sure it didn't leak

If theirs any corrosion on the tank might be worth sorting that while its off. They rust bad and a replacement is not cheap. Cannot help with nuts one snapped on of mine no ill effects just tightened the one either side a bit more. mike the bodge

OK today I replaced the stacks after having 1 bolt shear then luckily the bolt opposite decide it was going to start spinning and had to saw the nut off so sealed it all with some rtv gasket sealant and drove to Edinburgh and all is well after my mate who was boosting my battery his frontera ran out of petrol lol
