RE: Faulty EGT gauge?

Easy to test, connect a meter across the two terminals with it set to resistance...( Ohms) and drop the Temp probe into some boiling water, watch for a resistance change

Problem is water boils at 100 and the lowest reading on the gauge is 200. Even if it does show a resistance change does it prove it across a 600 degree range?

Probe doesn't look too good after a few weeks, what would it look like after 10k miles, good idea to swap it even if you have to do the guage as wel.

2006 'new shape' from new 66000 miles, no problems, just serviced every 12k miles.

That's basically what my take on it was. I ordered a new probe and gauge and the chap on the phone laughed when I said I had a chinese one. We'll see how his holds uo won't we. At least if I get probs with this new one they are a UK based company....

Came recommended to me on pocuk I think it was. I ordered to blue one. They have a huge range of gauges.

If yours keeps working though Basil then you don't have anything to worry about as your probe is post turbo. Drive it til it breaks maybe?

I guess? Who knows..... I had read warnings about chinese gauges. But, you found info otherwise. Dunno...

I will say this though. The probe don't look good in my eyes and it's still new.

Remember asking me yesterday how I was reaching 600degrees? Occurred to me today I wonder if that's partly because I am injecting heated fuel?

Couldn't tell you precisely. Whatever temp the water gets to. I can say this; the veg temp switch switches over to veg at 60degrees. But that is BEFORE (by a surprising amount) the dash temp gauge reaches it's normal operating position. So I wana say the fuel going in is circa 80-90 degrees hotter than yours?

Maybe someone will come on here in a minute to tell us it makes no difference. Worth consideration?

common sense (mine anyhoo) would say not - it`ll make the oil less viscous, loosening up the molecules allowing it to vapourise better, but I can`t imagine it`ll add to the explosion temp

Also probably doesn't change the temperature it combusts at.
