Alan G's truck

#1 by Alan G , Sat Aug 11, 2012 11:47 pm

Well the last couple off weeks have been busy, started Fri 27 july, done a full service, welded a bracket on the A bar for the CB arial, recharged the aircon & fitted the snorkel, followng fri replaced the brake shoes then today I finaly got round to fitting the 2" bodylift & re positioning the front bumper. Still to sort the brackets under the wheel arch, sort the gear selectors (gaitors are off at the moment & fit the extended brake hosed ( origionals are badly stretched. Once thats done I'll replace the alternator, power stearing & aircon belts. then Im gonna fix the dent in the tub ( happened over a year ago )

so still loads to do

Family days out I hasten to add..........

& I would like to point out that I got wet every time.

went to Crammond Island which is over a tidal causway, bloody tide came in so we had to walk back through the water, luckely it was only about 2" at that point but never made it to the Island,

Tried again the following weekend, got to the island & it started p!ssing it down with no where to shelter & a 1 mile walk back to the mainland.

Went to the zoo, had to park in the bus lanes as the carpark was full but we only had till 4pm, I went at 3pm to move both the truck & the inlaws car to the carpark & yep it started pissing down again.

Now, on those 3 occasions we had louise's mum with us, however we went to Almond valley country park on Fri without Louise's mother & guess what.................

GLORIOUS SUNSHINE

moral of the story. if you dont want it to rain then dont take the mother inlaw

ps Louise will kill me for putting that up so its been nice knowing you all

tub took about 1hr with no probs, cab took about 2hrs, had some trouble getting the nearside bolts to line up ( cab had moved slightly) I used the bottle jack on the chassis & sill to push back inline but the bolts came out easy enough.

Bumper took about 2hrs as alot of the bolts snapped, what I did find out though is there is no impact protection on the front of these trucks, if something hits bang in the middle then there is nothing to stop it till it gets to the engine.

I drilled a hole between the existing ones on the bumper brackets & mounted them in the existing top hole on the chassis, only mounted using 1 bolt each side, as I say about the protection, if something hits then 2 bolts aint gonna help anyway.

Still to sort the brackets under the wheel arch as they are just cable tied together at the moment with heavy duty ties.

Back end sits 27.5" between the wheel centre & arch, I recon the truck is about 6ft3 at highest point
