Buying a Used L200

#1 by M7133 , Sat Dec 16, 2017 4:06 pm

Hello

I have recently joined and I'm looking to buy an L200 for work and family purposes. I've spent quite a bit of time testing models and browsing the internet to try and improve my knowledge as much as possible but would be grateful to hear from current owners. Currently I'm looking at barbarian and warrior models from around the 2012/13/14 time based on the budget I have available. I have suffered from plantar fasciitis in the past which has mostly resolved thanks to cruise control (I know it sounds ridiculous but it's worked!) hence why I'm after the higher spec models; as well as being a little more comfortable for the family.

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but any help and advice from forum members would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks for your time and nice to 'meet' you all

Mark

Later models have DPFs fitted, unless you do big miles and give it a good blast it will cause you grief.
They came in mid 2011

Other than the emission controls issues Nick mentioned (common to any vehicle fitted with a DPF) that is a fairly reliable age of truck to be looking at. You should be able to take a pragmatic view like buying any car and check for regular serviceing, cambelt change, mileage, MOT history and find a good egg. Happy hunting!

Nothing major you need to look out for on that age of truck bud
just the usual stuff like tyres and body damage (especially at the rear as they are long trucks)
check it's got a spare wheel as they get nicked sometimes
as long as you get it HPI checked and buy it with plenty of MOT then you shouldn't have an issue

I do mostly short journeys in mine so avoided the ones with a DPF fitted as that would only have caused me problems

Thanks for all of your comments, I will take them on board when searching. At the moment things seem to have quietened down on the used L200 front with it being Christmas and new year so I'll pick up the search again in January. I also live in durham and there doesn't seem to be as many for sale in the north east.

Normally I do journeys 30 mins plus with the odd shorter drive so hopefully the DPF won't be an issue

Thanks again
Mark

Hello I am looking at a 2012 L200 this weekend and would also like to have the vehicle inspected as I’m still a novice. Are there any particular issues with this year anyone can think of and which companies would you recommend to use? Don’t have many friends in the motor trade unfortunately

Thanks
Mark
