Changed crankhaft

#1 by Earlybird112 , Sat May 26, 2018 5:29 pm

hi went to change my crank pulley today only to find the crank bolt was too small. Found the correct one on milners site saying this is for engines with the cranks changed etc. Does anyone know if this is always the case id be surprised if anyone had gone to the trouble on my old truck or maybe some originals were made that way?. This is a 2003 model l200 with 2.5 turbo charged engine. Any thoughts would be interesting, thanks

It might have had a milners engine fitted at some point as they are the only ones I know off with a different bolt.

I've ordered the nest bolt .very tempted to use the old one again so I could crack on andisplay finish the job but not worth risking go the sake of 15 quid and a few days wait. The truck was insurance write off before I bought it and old owners put it back on the road . They've cut lots of corners as I'm finding out which why new engine or even crank surprises me. The mileometer conveniently stopped working apparently about a year ago so hard to track it's history

That's a very good point actually. My bolt is in good order I probably would have been OK with it too

aye have reused mine a few times too. Problems probably comes from them being over-torqued. Might swap it out next time I go down there...

Slightly off track here but for the second time I've changed the tensioner's I've found the cam belt tensioner spring a complete pig to deal with after taking the tensioner off. When finally refitted the spring doesn't appear to be seated far on the bracket lug and it's in fact only the tension on the belt holding it in place. Once the spring is fully relaxes it pushes right off the lug itself. Bit disconcerting considering how important this is but I guess (hope) they're all the same. Be interesting to hear if anyone else has noticed this.
