Mpg

Hi everyone i have recently bought a L200 barbarian 2010 with 55k miles on it. Its got full mitsubishi service history. It hasnt got the computer in it but i have been driving it like a grandma to do test on fuel consumption. I seem to be only getting 18-20 mpg which i believe is really rubbish compaired to what the book says.
Can anyone tell me what there getting also if they have any ideas what could be my problem, or is this standard?
Many thanks

doing the maths by filling up and dividing the miles etc shows mine's doing mid 30s for MPG most of the time and that's 90% round town stop start driving (manual by the way)
autos are usually a bit thirstier
I reckon my info screen is optimistic as it reads about 5 MPG more than I actually get
that said, stuck behind a wagon doing 50 ish a while back on an A road showed me 50 MPG
