lack of power

#1 by Earlybird112 , Sat Jun 09, 2018 2:45 pm

Hi. After changing my cambelt and servicing my truck i set about putting it to work. Using my recently aquired trailer i decided to move a couple of old cars to the scrap yard and have a tidy up. Now this 53 plate l200 wasnt quick when i got it couple of months ago but this was something else. With the weight of the ifor trailer and exactly 1 tonne of ford focus it took an age to get to 40. Uphills were a struggle and hill starts an embarrasement. Anything that springs obviously to mind what could be so wrong here . Come to think of it ive not heard the turbo wailing like my 98 plate engined one , any fool prrof ways to check if this is working? any ideas gratefully recieved, Thanks

Cheffie meant *boost*. have a look at the turbo arm and see if it's sitting on the bottom bolt when you're engine's idling - if it is, the turbo is definitely not working.

if you've recently done the belts you may be a tooth out of timing, that'll make a big difference

I'm pretty certain the timing is OK but it's a good point and worth checking . I know the pump has a tendency to move a little but everything lined up OK when I pulled it round a couple if times with the ratchet. This truck doesn't have the same sound to it 's my old one when u rev it. The old one u could definitely hear the turbo coming in.think I'll take top cover off tho and check tension is still OK. This truck seemed sluggish before i touched anything and I think the trailer loaded has highlighted it .
