Trying to connect battery, alarm going off!

#1 by WillS , Tue Nov 13, 2018 11:30 am

I've got an 02 plate, and the battery died completely (down to 1.1v) so I whipped it out and charged it over a few days.

Now trying to put it back in, and with the + terminal connected, the second I connect the - terminal the alarm starts going off, or something like an alarm - just a constant high pitched beep. Any suggestions as to why, and how to get the battery connected without going deaf?!

No idea, but I ended up sorting it by leaving the key in the on position, connecting the battery up, running around to the key and pressing the unlock button while the key was still in.

Neighbors weren't happy, but she's working now

So apparently whatever happened has affected the passenger side front indicator. It's decided to stop working, but the bulb is fine. Hazard doesn't work on that side either. I hate electronics...!

Might be the aforementioned alarm tie in, get thy meter out and check the circuit. Also check the contacts and earth of the bulb holder.

So this is driving me nuts now. Can't get indicator to work, and can't find the relay anywhere. My engine compartment fuse box doesn't look anything like the images on Google, and the book doesn't say what any of the relays are for.

Anybody know where the indicator relays might be?

under bonnet

in drivers footwell

fuse 5 under the bonnet, fuse 3 in the footwell
have a good check you've got power to the bulb sockets as they are notorious for corroding and not making contact on both the indicator and the sidelight on the classic
