wee bitty tabs on steel shim gasket

#1 by Daviemtc , Sat Nov 24, 2018 12:28 pm

A question for the Head boy. On the steel shim gaskets I have from Milners there are wee bitty metal tabs folded over on six of the coolant holes on the top face of the gasket, these tabs lie under the face of the head rather than over the holes, is this ok or do they need snapping off prior to fitting? they are presumably 0.5mm . I wouldn't want to leave a piece of an old gasket that thick on top of the block, also on a slightly different note I just got new balance shaft bearings fitted, should these not have oil holes in them, mine don't??.Cheers Davie

@hotchef123 should be able to answer, although my thought is theyre molding tabs that werent removed after pressing.

Aye they're folded as if to keep the two top sheets together, a couple of the coolant holes on the middle sheet don't line up too well on these either, would I be a bit anal to want to reshape them a bit to allow full coolant flow?

Bought one, then a mate came round with one buckshee that's two, then realised I probably needed a full gasket kit, so no3, aye so now I have two manifold and rocker gaskets and a few spare seals too. lined the gasket up to the block rather than against the head all holes line up fine from this side, was just sizing things up, still have plenty to do before head goes back on.
