if yours is a classic (square shape doors) then your OBD wont work
if yours is a newshape (curved rear door) then the OBD will work
I suspect yours is a classic being 2005
there are readers available that will read codes on a classic @123hotchef @Heathen @Nick might be able to advise further on that

do you lose power when the engine light comes on ?
quite often the engine light will come on when the turbo is overboosting so the ECU shuts it down to protect the engine
there is a how to of how to adjust the boost screws if this is the issue --------> How to :- Adjust Turbo Overboost
mine used to overboost now and then, always cured itself by pulling over , turning the engine off for 60 seconds then starting up again

Classics are MUT3 so OBD2 won't read it.
I think the Delphi works (You buy the disc & lead for your Laptop) and some top end Snap On readers work.
There was also a Chinese reader that worked, it was Mitzi specific.

cheers krutly yes it is the classic with the square rear doors

it isn't loosing power and seems to be driving fine will have to wait for someone to point me in the direction of a reader that works as I was just quoted £115 to diagnose the fault

Thanks again all I will order one up, a friend of a friend came to the rescue and it's showing as my EGR.. Time to read up about removing it and getting the kit ordered to blank it off.

There's a chappy called @FoxyChris who does an electronic version, you may wish to consider that instead of the plate as it's gentler on the engine. It's better to work with the brain than confuse it! (click on his name, then look at the history down the page - egr module)
