Snow warnings for the South/Midlands

#1 by Tek76 , Sun Jan 27, 2019 4:26 pm

A weather warning for snow has been issued for a large swathe of England this week with the risk of up to 10cm falling in higher places.

The yellow alert, in place for Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, stretches from Kent and East Anglia, up to Lincolnshire, the Midlands and almost as far across as Bristol.

Up to 3cm (1.2in) of heavy snow is expected to fall widely during this period, according to forecasters, with 10cm (3.9in) possible on higher ground.

Time to check tyres/fluids and put a shovel/strop in the tub.

We got Hit by it last week, It immediately shut down the entire town I work in. As in almost ALL roads in and out of the town completely shut down and blocked by stuck cars despite it just being a dusting. Co-workers where stuck in the office car park for up to an hour because it was Gridlocked.

Fortunately I parked my truck a 10 minute walk away in a secondary secure car park that sits right on the end of a network of country lanes that goes around all the traffic and back to my village 25 miles away. So after a very cold 10 minute walk I was able to hop into my L200 and set off down the completely abandoned lanes because people in the town assumed the lanes would be screwed. Ironically the lanes where clear because the tree canopy above them had kept the snow away.

Even my truck wont get up the hill when it snows. we have to leave the cars at the bottom and then we have two choices, walk or use one of these to get up and down. And yes it is as much fun as it looks.

shame you've got the canopy, otherwise you could do the parasite vehicle thing

Speak of the devil! i just looked out the window for the wife coming home and there's been a dusting. so i'm off to pick her up from the bottom. I know it doesn't look much, its more of what might fall during the night thats the problem. and if the vehicles are up here, they're stuck here.

That was just a clip off the net, all mine has is the windscreen and roll cage. This is it just now.

Aaaarse,
So, i tried to take the truck, on M and S tyres up a 20 degree incline wih 4 inches of grass under an inch or two of wet snow.
Fail.
To be honest, i cant think of worse conditions and i only tried for about ten seconds.
The tyre marks on the ground were good.

And fresh from the Met Office: "Saturday night it's likely to be very similar to Thursday night - we could get down to minus 16C (3.2F) in Scotland, but it's worth bearing in mind that even across the south we could get into negative double figures."
Can someone go and thaw @paulw with a flamethrower?
