EBD2 Fuel saver? (or not!?)

Hi all, newbie here! I have a pretty new 18 plate L200 Barbarian. I met up with an old mate at the weekend who also has a similarly new L200 Warrior. We were discussing our new vehicles and how pleased in general we both are with them, but that we also agree the fuel consumption was a bit disappointing based on what we'd researched before buying. He has recently bought a little blue plug-in thing called "Eco EBD2" which goes in a kind of scart port under the dash. He reckons it's improved his MPG from the low 30's to the high 30's/low 40's. Does anyone else have any opinions on these things? I'm not finding too much positive stuff searching online! Can they actually do damage to the vehicle or cause problems with warranty? Or am I just way too suspicious and they are in fact just a nifty little gadget that simply saves some fuel!? Thanks in advance for your thoughts/advice! JDMD x
