Help - Need basic modifcations on L200 K34

Hi all,

Just found this site. I am a K34 2.5 diesel (aspirated) (1986-1996 series) and I would not upgrade it or trade it in for any other make or model.

She's been around, battered and aged but still going strong with the standard 4D56 engine. I'm from Papua New Guinea (Pacific Island nation just north of Australia). There are no auto shops here with 4WD accessories for older model 4WDs, including my L200.

I have a few silly questions for anyone who can provide with some basic knowledge on:

1. How can I increase power on my standard engine. I hear, installing a snorkel (for more oxygen) and putting in a more wider manifold or something like that should do the job and,
2. The front lower and upper bump stoppers are just a few (about 5mm) apart either way. I can I increase the clearance so the stoppers don't get a beating every time I hit a pothole or driving on rough dirt road?

Would appreciate your valuable feedback.

a snorkle wont really give you much more BHP TBF you can tweak the pump though.
I make and sell ball joint spacer kits to give you travel back in the top arm or u can trim/remove the bump stops or both

I tried trimming the bump stops on mine and they just fell off
only time I ever knew was when I hit any mahoosive potholes at speed

How can pump be tweaked??

advance it for more fueling, you could bolt a turbo to it, but once you start tweaking them for more power you may shorten the life of the engine it is a old truck after all

Advancing it for more fuel only increases more black smoke/exhaust. 4D56 a re little bit known for that.

what part of the world are you in? black smoke unburnt fuel you need more air to go with the more fuel

lol! Smacked in between Indonesia and Australia. Hence my initial thought of having a snorkel installed = more clean &cool air/oxygen.

yeh you may get a bit more air in with a snorkle, a turbo would deffianly get more air in!

Thank you 123hotchef! Now I need to look around for a snorkel. Non available in the country - sourcing it from Australia costs a fortune. Will have to try find one (ebay) from Asia.
