Steering vibration at slow speed/brakes rubbing?

#1 by Wazman ( Guest ) , Thu Dec 12, 2019 4:52 pm

Hello,

Just bought a 15 plate challenger (series 4) with 30k miles.
The brake discs and pads were replaced by the garage I bought it from.
It's all perfect and like new condition.
Only thing I noticed is that when doing slow manoeuvres like reverse park
and I move the steering to full lock as I turn the wheel there are points
during the turn that I feel a rubbing/vibration through the steering wheel and pedals.
Could it be the new pads and discs rubbing? Any other ideas? I can't hear it, only feel it
Any help appreciated

Thanks

I'd be checking the power steering fluid level and power steering belt too

I don't think it does it when stationary so don't think it's the power steering otherwise if I just sat still and turned the wheels I'd feel it just the same right?.. I'll check though

if it's belts or pump you can usually make it happen by putting all the lights, heater etc on then go from lock to lock stationary

if you've got chunky mud tyres on that may affect it too

So I checked the power steering fluid, it's just right. Not sure how to check the belt
But put all the heaters lights rear screen heater and turned it lock to lock over and over and no noise. It's definitely something to do with the wheels turning..

STD road tyres or other type?

I know it sounds silly , I'd be checking the wheel nuts too. I've seen them not done properly before and it causing a knocking

They are all terrain tyres, I'll check the wheel nuts when it's daylight tomorrow. Good idea.
I gues if it doesn't change/gets worse I can just get mitsubishi to look at it as it's still under warranty.

Ok after a little more tinkering I think the noise/vibration is inside this towering column itself. Inside the car... So whatever the steering wheel attached too seems to have an area where it runs or isn't greased sufficiently. Anyone taken teh steering wheel off and lubricated it?

If it's still under warranty , at this point , I'd be taking it back to Mitsi. I've never heard of a steering column needing lubricating before
