EGR blank B40 engine

#1 by Barbarian79 , Wed Feb 05, 2020 8:04 pm

Evening all

So heating issue in my previous post turned out to be head gasket, block test confirmed it.What a nightmare but that's life. Waiting to find out the the severity of the damage. I think I caught it early.

Was planning on removing and blanking EGR and by passing cooler. Does anyone know if having the EGR disconnected flags a reduced power fault?

Many thanks

Unlike the historical, err classic, B40 owners have an alternative open to them. There's a smart bit of wiring you slide in the airbox loom, that performs instead of the blanking plate. http://www.mitsi-egr.co.uk/

What a clever idea, thanks for the info!! Tek76 or anyone, have you got any experience using these interfaces? I assume that without the EGR operating it will soon jam itself shut.

Also one other thing. Part of me wanting to ditch the EGR was the opportunity to also ditch the egr cooler. About to get a >£1000 bill for head gasket. I have read alot about the EGR cooler failuring causing the HG failures.
Any truth behind this, would u just replace the cooler anyway? Are the coolers that fragile?

I've had one on for about a year, no issues reported. Foxy's been making em for years, and nay a worry - best bit is how easy to remove it for ye dreaded MoT

So hopefully collecting my truck tomorrow post Head skim and new gasket. Definitely gonna get me one of these aftermarket looms.
What's people's thoughts of fitting a blanking plate on the hot side of the EGR feed? This would negate any leak from the EGR cooler (if they are as fragile as some say)?

My symptoms could have as easily been the EGR cooler.
