Today's tinkering

#1 by Tony2chins , Mon May 27, 2013 12:15 pm

I was a bit fed up with the corroded spot lights I have tried various chrome paints etc but they still looked untidy so I just striped them out again and painted them gloss black I know it will reduce the amount of light thrown out but I think they look better i also took the badge of and sprayed that gloss black as well and of coarse hoovered the inside

Spraying that badge the same colour as the truck makes it look as hard as a robber's dog mate , well done

The more I look at your grille , the more I feel that all trucks should have a badge to suit their body colour ......... even if you have an Iris blue truck

That looks good! I like that.

I have the same grill. I've tinkered with the idea of removing the matt black. Its pitted here and there and I've wondered if some 'Nitromors' or a paint remover is the way to go to show off the chrome beneath. Would it take off the chrome too anyone, anyone tried this?

As my L200 is silver, I like the idea of all chrome with a black gloss emblem or chrome, decide on that once I get past part 1..

I would guess that its all mat black with chrome plating over the ribs.so i assume you would be left with a full black grill

Mine has pitted through stones I guess and the underneath is chrome. I think it has been over sprayed the chrome.

I may try some paint remover over something chrome.

Are those Halfords chrome sprays any good? Could be a back up plan!?

The chrome sprays I have used just look like a metallic silver rather than chrome

Dave, have a bash at doing your grille........ you could always put mesh over the front like I've done
Dont be afraid of having a bash as if you make a total arse up of it then give me a shout as my old grille is hanging up in my garage
