Right I replaced my CV joint today on my Passat, and noticed the boot on the other side has a small hole in it only 3 years old as I replaced that one 3 years ago.
Any way, noticed a few split ball joint rubbers.
The car is 11 years old now would you replace the wishbones and other suspension parts on a car of this age?

Lee, ball joint rubbers are now an MOT failure as " they will allow dirt ingress into the component and can cause premature failure", they will need doing for the MOT but are they worn at the moment and have " excessive unnatural movement ".. if not then just do them for the MOT mate..

one is worn and I can feel the dirt grinding inside it.
but they are all still original parts so is it time to replace the lot and be done with it?

As Lez says you can just replace the rubber boots for the MOT, unless there is excessive play in them.

no nick I am on about the ball joints not cv gaiters.
have to replace both lower wishbones as the ball joint rubbers are split

Lee, you can get rubbers only if they are OK, think thats what Nicks on about, we can get replacement rubbers for truck BJ's..

I thought they were all part of the BJ machine pressed into them.

Just fitted with spring clips, a bit like a skinny spring washer. I know we get truck balljoint rubbers, we buy them in packs of 3

these ones come pre filled with grease and cannot be topped up I think
