Balance belt snapped???

#1 by Hornstar , Wed Jul 15, 2015 7:45 pm

Hmmmmmmmm me thinks I won't be going far for a week or so!

We went to look at a new house out in Buntingford and whilst trundling along one of many small country lanes doing no more than 25mph, there was a sudden noise from the front and then total loss of power.

Spot the difference!!

Gutted!

If you want to try just replacing the rocker shaft I have one spare. £30.00 + postage. Has shaft, springs & all 8 rockers. Valves should be ok as the rocker is designes to break when the belt goes. Worth trying rather than stripping the head of to find its ok.

What causes this belt to snap, and why don't we disconnect it and drive under 3000rpm,we discard the EGR valve why not advise the top balance belt

Agree but for older engines why not just discard something that can cause a lot of damage.

To be honest I have seen all about the EGR but since I have been on the forum I have never or just not recognised it seen a thread saying advise on a K74 to remove top balance belt. If there is it needs pushing to help forum readers as it is now on my to do list.

Me thinks a new thread stating all the advisories to do on a K74 is required,to help stop any blown engines. Chef you is the guy I vote on this as my internet is like donkey to a fast electric train in Wales..
