Spent a couple of hours this afternoon dressing some more of the metal work, as well as welding I've also bolted through the new mounting plate, so she ain't going nowhere

I've still got to finish a wee bash plate for the bottom of the bumper, and I've got another couple of braces to weld on I've not decided whether I'm getting it powder coated or painted

Some of its like a dugs dinner, this is the 3rd different vehicle this ARB has been on and some of the previous welding was a bit suspect so I ground a couple of bits out and re done some of it

RE: Greigboy's build

Well tonight's not been a good night, I am mounting the winch onto the face of the winch bumper (vertical) as opposed to it being mounted on a tray (horizontal) as such I needed to rotate the winch gearbox 90 degrees, which looked simple enough

Firstly when the was splitting the gearbox from the drum, the cable tie securing the wire rope to the winch body snapped and the drum spun free and I had to unwind the 20 odd meters of wire rope, however it was perhaps a blessing in disguise as the M8 bolt holding the wire to the drum was loose and only holding on by a few threads.

So with disaster no 1 out of the way we move onto rotating the gearbox, way job.....well it should have been, however it was the I discovered that the bolt pattern on the gearbox is not symmetrical and the gearbox can only be rotated 180 degrees and cannot rotate through 90

to achieve this I will have to drill 10 very precise holes in the casing ising the gasket as a template, which I don't really want to do, but have little alternative as I cannot return the winch.

Once again the devil farts in my face with this truck

My truck makes me feel like this at the moment also!

Haven't heard of people having this problem rotating the gearbox before....

I've since read a couple of posts on it on Auz forums, its seemingly ones with 12 bolts are fine but the ones with 10 bolts are the issue, and guess how many mine has

Why would you need to rotate the gearbox? Is it for the case loading, electrical connections or something I can't think of?

The free spool clutch lever mate if I left it as is it would be pointing towards the radiator and inside the bumper, rotating 90 degrees allows it to pop through a hole in the top of the bumper so it can be accessed.

Not 20 holes yet Scott, its scunnered me for tonight and I'd likely make a mistake if it were to do it, so I'll tackle it with a fresh head tomorrow

I thought that enough of these were made in the same factory that the casings would all be pretty much the same. Pain in the ass that is!

TBH I considered flogging it as it would be perfect for anyone with a tray but I need it fitted this weekend and i can't be bothered with the arsing about selling it then getting another, a bit of careful measuring and drill 10 holes and it'll be fine.

Well the decision to tackle it the winch tonight with a clear head was the right one, I measured the mounting plate and drilled it so it could be mounted 90 degrees

Another positive about tonight was that I managed to get the spots fitted to the roof rack, just need to get a loom off Mr LezT to get them up and running

I ended up getting 2 sets of 2 for £27, TBH I wish if have got the Wipac's but they'll do for now, I managed to get a set of the 8 inch wipac spots for the winch bumper.

I can't wait until its all done as I'm getting fed up getting the train to work

TBH they look the part & for what we use them for why pay a fortune on lights. I need to put multiplugs into my loom aswell but mine run along the chassis & up the back of the cab & along the rack.

Well I got a wee bit more done to the bumper today, after the meet at the weekend I decided to extend the sides of the bumper to blend with the arches and TBH I'm alot happier with it now.
I also managed to test fit the winch for the first time and I had to cut a new hole for the clutch handle.
The bumper is going for shot blasting in the morning so I'll hopefully get it coloured on Saturday and make up a couple for templates for the chequer plate that's going on the top face in front of either headlamp

I've uploaded some pics of to he bumpers progress g320-Credit-crunch-ARB-winch-bumper.html
