Engine replacement

#1 by Fingers , Sat Jul 03, 2021 11:05 am

Hi all, looking at replacing the complete engine in my 2006 B40 animal. Long story short is radiator hose completely split, engine overheated, seized engine. Modded up that much I have to keep it. Has anybody swapped one? Any pit falls? If so any advice greatly appreciated.

Not done a B40 and all you can get now are 2nd hand engines.
Wouldnt have time to do one now with my new job being shifts.
Sorry.

Thanks for reply guys, got a few contacts to call Monday for prices etc. Prices are varied from £1400 up to £3500. Do you know if a later 2010 b40 lump will drop straight in? Thanks again gents

Hi Fingers
how did you go on with engine replacement?
Mine has gone bang and need a new one but all I can find are from thieves and vagabonds most not registered companies or dont exist on google maps at the address given

Yes, got it sorted and back to abusing it again. Sent you a pm by mistake believe it or not. Try Parts 4 Pickups, Welshpool. Helped me out no end. Good luck

Looks like you have a bit more luck than me
Just rung them nothing in stock but they have a 2014 coming in with 50,000 on clock unfortunately they want £3000 +vat with fitting £1600 +vat so that's £5500 plus transport and other bits timing belt oil filters etc so Circa £6000 for an engine in a motor that "we buy any car" value at £7100 running.
Even if I could find a local mechanic to remove and fit for the same price as yours its still over £4000 and only a three month guarantee.
As I still owe about £4000 on it (only had it a year) the offer of £2200 scrap seems like the only viable option, cut my losses and start again. Sad because I love the motor and it ticks every box for what we need

I understand you being p***ed off with it now. I thought I had it bad when mine went but christ, I don't envy that decision. Have you tried some salvage auction sites for a crashed donor? I bought a crashed (cat s) transit few years back for a rear axle and tipper body. I used original transit to repair the crashed one in the end as it was a better truck. At the time it Was Cheaper than buying just an axle from local breakers. Good luck either way.

@reddog Did you try Thornton Breakers? Maybe worth putting a requiest into somewhere like www.1stchoice.co.uk or www.breakeryard.com. or look at local auctions for crash repairables
