So...count-down to the 14th November Northumberland... after this i won't be off roading till after Xmas, Just pub meets if any
UNLESS!!!!somone is willing to confirm they can make Kirton

Have to add on a few things to do again to what i planned....always the case, most work is what you did'nt plan for...
Called 'Big Red' yesterday for the kit to refurb brake master cylinder, they told me that they where stocking in on kits and the one i probably needed was on order/or to be ordered, they said the one they had was 23.8 diameter bore size, the others are 26 and 22.2.
So becouse i need this ASAP i have ordered complete vacume/master cylinder of bay of eee's (Used) for £30, awaiting dilivery in next few days....
Looked into it later......and the bore is 23.8!!!!! well my fault should have checked but will order and keep old cylinder off truck so will have a spare (will fit Pajero too).
So..
Refurb calipers
New pads
Check rear cylinders
Put new shoes on back (that i never got to doin)
replace vacume/brake master cylinder
check and replace all brake lines as needed
put other tyres/rims on

Keep ya posted

This is an easy job and taking old one off and replacement on took all of an hour, taking it easy 1.5hrs. loosen all brake lines, then under the pedal...take pin out of pedal and undo the four bolts and it all slides out...

Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

never a dull moment...lost a copper washer that goes under the brake lines you can see in the fourth pic above, it diceded to take a dive into the engine below just could not find it....it was 12:30 .....so went out to the only place that was open...and only thing i found was sump plug for a 206 pug that had a copper washer same size....and it did the job!

Then to tackle the bit that worried me the most.....took the wheel off...
Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

coulde'nt even bleed the caliper, nipple corroded and rounded off, metal/rubber brake pipes corroded, there is some serious rot needs seeing too.....in short it all needs takin to bits ALL OF IT if i am to do a good job....
As i'm at it i will park it up (no brakes anyway at moment) and get this other lot done...

Bild entfernt (keine Rechte)

Even got four decent tyres off woody (Lloyd) for next weekends event....that i'm not gonna be able to make now.......but thats the way it is at the moment

RE: The 'Rust Bucket' re-build

#63 by krutly , Mon Nov 10, 2014 8:31 am

had them on mine for 18 months now

first thing I gotta say is they look feckin awesome. They do give a bit of drone on smooth surfaces and aren't the greatest when you put your foot down on a wet roundabout. Having said that, I have never got even close to getting stuck with them on. Only got them on the front now as I got 15 inch wheels on the back of mine and 16 on the front (long story). They do steal quite a few miles out of every tank. I put them on as my "winter set" and then when I went back to my "summer set" which were duellers, I hated the look so kept my winter tyres as all year round tyres and to hell with the fuel consumption. One thing worth noting is that when they are new and have a fair bit of tread (yours look like they have a fair bit) , when they pick up a stone it tends to be a big 'un and when it flicks out (usually in the wheel arch somewhere) it does sound like you've been shot at. Wear wise they dont seem too bad , I've done about 15,000 on these front ones picured below at KORC

Time to start again, so list of next jobs:
Finish brakes/vacume pump/referb-paint calipers/hoses-pipes
Swap wheels/put free wheel hubs on
New bushes on front arms top/bottom
Clean and weld as needed.
finally put diff lock pump on.
New fuse box inside for accessories etc.

Got 80% of this now so need to start thinking of 1st May event and make sure it's in good working order.

Still loosing pressure so checked all lines again...

All ok from top end.....

And checked from pump hose below again almost no loss at all....

So is it possible that the servo I changed is just as bad as the original one...thinking of taking it to my mechanic....see what he thinks. Really need to sort it now..
