Just to add it started spot on this morning from cold and 'ticked over' at 8000ish RPM. Going to take it for a run and see what its like when its warm.

The truck was serviced last June, its done 1300 miles since

could this be part of the problem ? has it been stood for a while and not used enough ? mine always gets half a filter full of forte when I service it and a good Italian tune up afterwards
I did have a similar problem with my bike a while back when I didn't use it enough.

OOP's obviously 800RPM.

Tried to get some Forte but apparently it is only sold to garages and not motor factors, I had some millers diesel treatment at home so slung a load of that in and went to Scunny and back down the A180 at 70mph.

All seemed ok when I got home, started on the button, its been parked now for a few hours and have just been out to it and its as bad as before, spins over for to long before firing and low tick over, in every other way its running great.

You can buy Forte retail, no problem. Wurth is better though.

Have you checked you're getting voltage to the glow plug bus rail?

I havnt checked the bus rail but as it starts spot on in the morning when its cold I would guess that will be ok but I will have a look.

As for Forte I was going on what the factor told me, couldn't find any at the motor factors I went to.

This morning it started spot on and 'ticked over' nicely, it seems to be when it starts getting warm that the problem starts? Slightly pressing the throttle pedal dosnt seem to make any difference.

Wonder if something like the fuel pressure sensor/regulator is breaking down when it gets warm?

Coolant temp sensor? Get round those sensors with a multimeter.

Could be, just having a look where the sensors are and how to check the potentiometer out. Soon as MotoGP has finished I will be having a look.

Havn't had chance to look any further but I did try pressing the filter bleed pump which made no difference. I am back on 12 hour shifts now for 7 days so will have to live with it, the thing that's really bugging me is, all was ok until I changed the ruddy fuel filter.

My turn to drive tomorrow so I took the Animal for some fuel, when I undid the cap it hissed, not sure if it was pressure or vacuum , sound familiar to anyone?

It does seem to be getting steadily worse, still starts after a few seconds of turning and drives great when it does, I think the next move will be to fit a new filter head.

When my truck had a starting problem I was advised to release the fuel cap before I left it overnight, if it's not venting correctly it creates a vacuum and try's to pull the diesel back from the pump

No, a knackered diesel pump was the final diagnosis after replacing the entire fuel system
