Low tickover? and starting woes

#1 by Jon Grimsby , Fri May 15, 2015 6:56 pm

Guys my 'new' Animal is giving me grief, was all ok until I fitted a new fuel filter. The tickover is just below 750rpm and causing vibration (I can stop that by putting my boot against the exhaust) if I raise the revs to 750rpm the vibes go away, also it now takes a few seconds to fire up where it started spot on prior to filter change.

I have refitted the old filter and checked all fuel lines, I found the return hose clip at the pump was slack so replaced that, also the feed hose clip at the filter was slack so I replaced that, I am going to get some new hose tomorrow as the old hoses feel a bit squidgy.

I checked the plunger this morning and it took 2 pumps to go hard, is this normal or should it be hard all of the time?

What is the correct tickover rpm?

Why the hell did I sell my old Animal

@ronniecabers mine is just below the 750 line, if I raise it to just above the 'exhaust' vibe disappears, damn these FBW pumps, back in the day I would of adjusted the throttle cable.

Would say yours is too low then...take it it wasn't like this before you changed the filter?

have you tried running something like Forte treatment through it, wonder if youve picked up a small bit of cr4p?

No mate, it was normal and started within a second or two. Maybe a coincidence and something else is wrong?

Think the filter can be ruled out , as he put the original back on and still did it....wonder if seal isn't seated correctly or its picked up some cr4p when the filter was done

The truck was serviced last June, its done 1300 miles since, I only changed the fuel filter as I was doing the oil and filter, the seal looked fine on both filters and I lubed them before fitting including the drain valve seal. Ruggered if I know

You can tweak the tickover on the fbf by adjusting the throttle potentiometer that is bolted on the throttle pedal , there are 2 10mm bolts to slacken off and it has elongated holes for adjustment

jon, start the truck up and keep pushing the plunger as quick as it fully returns, pump it again. do that for a few minutes then let it idle again and see what happens.
