I Like the one in your picture Luke, tubes look best and plenty of room for spots.

Agreed. Looks spot on. Edit - no pun intended

Thing is you said you don't have a pipe bender Steve? The bends and angles are critical to the look.

Not too dissimilar mate. Main difference would be the bull bar. Contours are different too if memory serves. I think it's safe to say I like the tubular bumpers.

My mate had a similar one done for his Hilux ( see in my gallery pics), he got it done from a fabricator near Durham for only a few hundred, so a lot cheaper than the ARB type. Although he likes the yank style where they have the bull bar bit really high, like the rock crawler ones, but the guy wouldn't do it, I think it might not comply over here to have it too big/high.

I think even this big wouldn't be allowed

Would be inclined to agree Greg. For me I just want something that gives better incline clearance and a tougher looking front end.

Brian's price is good. When the time comes I just need to see if any member up that way would let Brian take their bumper off for about 6 hours. It's a lot to ask of someone, so I'd happily pay for their time. I'll put a proper thread up about it when the time comes. Shame I live so far from Brian!:/

Birdie, anyone fitting a home made part basicly does so at their own risk, if you use it for offroad only then you shouldnt have any issues however if you use it to pull a BMW out the snow & it goes pair shaped then you could be in the poo.

As for the bumper acting as a bumper then Im pretty sure they are stronger than the plastic crap on them as standard, Mot wise as long as they are secure & no sharp edges then they should pass.

I used to do recovery work years ago & most of the kit on the trucks were built by the boss, so not tested in any way but we were still ok to do work for AA, RAC, Greenflag etc etc.

what I intend on doing is once I get a winch bumper or tray is to test it myself, get it fitted & go somewhere out the road & put a shitload of strain on it, If it breaks then I will deal with the supplier.

Thought it would be a "no sharp edges" type thing just wasn't sure if bumpers had any other reg's for use on road

alsong as it doesnt affect the lights. there is a law on full bull bars but I have never seen the police enforce it, Greigboy or Colinthecop could give more info on that i think.

I seem to think the offence covers the manufacture of them, there is no law in fitting/using them....

However, when does a tubular bumper become a bullbar...?

Thanks Kurt. It's not bad. I can 't place what it is that makes me uncertain about it though. The angles, the welded joins on the bull bar or maybe too chunky. Not really sure. I like the previous two on this thread more though.

In my mind its one of those that if it was offered I'd snap it up but if I had a choice I wouldn't pick that design if I was having it made ....... if that makes sense ?

I don't like the pushy-outy snout. Would prefer it less pronounced and angled slightly back.
